Memorial Day Flag Laying

Each year, our VFW Post honors the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans by placing American flags on their graves at the Vacaville‑Elmira Cemetery. This tradition brings our community together in a shared moment of remembrance and gratitude.

Flag Placement – Saturday Before Memorial Day

On the Saturday before Memorial Day, volunteers gather to place flags at the gravesites of every veteran laid to rest in the cemetery. It’s a meaningful opportunity for families, students, Scouts, and community members to pay their respects and ensure each veteran is honored. Start time is 0830.

Flag Cleanup – Tuesday After Memorial Day

We return on the Tuesday following Memorial Day to respectfully remove the flags. This step is just as important as placement, helping maintain the dignity and care of the cemetery grounds. Start time is 0800.

A Community Tradition of Honor

This annual effort is more than a task — it’s a commitment to remembering those who served and ensuring their legacy continues to be recognized by future generations.
